Feeling out of balance?
Start with a mainframe capacity study.

Is your IT infrastructure performing at optimum levels?

Mainline's System z mainframe solutions team has over 35 years of experience in mainframe capacity planning. Our analysts have performed over 250 mainframe capacity studies for our customers each year. Our experience allows us to identify areas that may be out of balance and will provide you with possible solutions to achieve improved performance.

We provide detailed reports of systems performance and capacity projections utilizing a variety of IBM analytical modeling tools. The basic report provides an insight into the three primary systemcomponents, processor, memory and I/O activity.

The mainframe capacity study also provides the following detail:

  • Overall processor utilization
  • A look at LPAR relationships within a processor
  • Workload review of:
    • Processor Utilization usage and delay
    • System Memory Utilization
    • I/O Utilization
    • Path Utilization
    • I/O Rates, including total Read and Writes
    • Response and Service times & components
    • I/O Skew, Most Delayed Volumes, and if data is available, a list of associated datasets
  • Basic DASD Control Unit review of performance
  • Capacity projection of processor over time
  • Analysis of workloads to determine potential impact of re-directing eligible work to specialty engines such as zIIP and zAAP

Types of mainframe capacity studies:

Basic
The typical capacity and/or performance study including one machine and up to 2 LPARs or a Basic FICON analysis or a zIIP or zAAP study.
Value $6,000

Medium
Add DASD or Specialty engines (zIIP, zAAP, ICF, IFL) to Basic Study, or a 2 LPAR System with a Simulation Study and a zIIP or zAAP study.
Value $9,000

Complex
Simulation studies, Batch Workload Analysis, Consolidation studies, Comparison studies, DASD PPRC Analysis, Sysplex/Coupling Facility Analysis.
Value $12,000
