zVM / zLinux Implementation

Mainline offers complete and comprehensive installation services for zVM with zLinux. These services provide customers with all of the assistance and skills needed to properly install and implement zVM and zLinux, and provide guest zLinux clients ready for application installation. Our goal is to make sure every zVM with zLinux implementation is successful for our customers. We provide detailed planning, installation, and migration services, as well as training for systems programmers and operators so all aspects of the operating systems are properly exploited, and the transition to the new software complete and rewarding.

Mainline zVM and zLinux implementation services include:

  • System configuration tasks (LPAR, IOCDS, processor, memory, etc.)
  • Mainframe and communications requirements
  • Definition and setup of an additional LPAR (if needed)
  • DASD planning and requirements
  • Administration and security planning
  • X/Windows client/server configuration if client has X/Windows software available
  • Applicable Linux daemon configuration
  • Apache Web Server basic configuration
  • TCP/IP re-configuration for Linux to meet the requirements of the customer network
  • Assist the customer in setting up an environment that will allow for the application of maintenance. This includes applying maintenance from cd-rom and also from the SuSE's web site.
  • Apply all maintenance to the new Linux system to bring the customer up to date
  • Installation and assistance in configuration of one or more of the following: SAMBA, DNS, DHCP as time and needed changes to existing networks allow.
  • Assist the customer in backing up the new Linux DASD from the customers existing mainframe operating system (z/OS, z/VM, or z/VSE).
