Mainline & Its Beatitude Foundation Support the Digital Harmony Program

October 8, 2007

Championed by Commissioner Gillum, Free Computers are?Changing Education for Sixth Graders

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Mainline Information Systems and its related Beatitude Foundation have joined together to support the Digital Harmony project, expanding educational options for children in Leon County though free desktop computers.

The project, spearheaded by Tallahassee Commissioner Andrew Gillum, is a collaborative community-based program designed to expand computer skills knowledge base, along with Internet access for sixth graders at Nims Middle School. The Digital Harmony pilot project provides every incoming sixth grader at the middle school with a new, three-year warranty covered desktop computer, free Internet access and online academic curriculum and training for core classes. Children in under-served areas within the community will now be able to complete homework assignments using web-based resources.

Mainline, through its foundation, contributed $20,000 to this initiative, believing that, in an age where technology is fundamental in education and jobs, "We need to help these teachers and students get caught up with higher performing schools." said Rick Kearney, President and CEO of Mainline. "Technology has changed the world for today's kids. Using laptops, and high speed digital communications, the students' school and home are now connected. . Digital Harmony gives teachers, students and parents the opportunity to leverage computers in their education and expand their knowledge base across many fields of interest."
