November 5, 2008
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - At the 2008 Citrix Summit held in October in Orlando, FL, Mainline Information Systems was awarded the 2008 Visionary Partner of the Year Award by Wyse Technology, the global leader in thin computing.
"For the second year in a row, Wyse has recognized Mainline Information Systems for their technology solution leadership," stated Don Lopes, Director of Reseller Channels & Sales for Wyse. "Mainline has demonstrated innovation in developing a bundled desktop virtualization solution offering that is unique to the industry. Their VDI [Virtual Desktop Solution] offering pulls together all solution components, as well as the expertise, experience and services of Mainline's team. This provides tangible value for customers by making solution planning, configuration and implementation easier, and by delivering on bottom-line cost savings," concluded Lopes.
In 2007, Mainline announced the industry's first bundled desktop virtualization solution offering, incorporating Wyse thin client devices. "Mainline's VDI offering allows customers to host individual desktops inside virtual machines running in centralized data centers on reliable, fault-tolerant, industry-standard servers," stated Donn Bullock, VDI Practice Director for Mainline. "Users access these desktops remotely from a Wyse thin client using RDP (remote desktop protocol). Since applications are managed centrally within the corporate data center, organizations gain better control over their desktops and the data these desktops access."
Ease of management is one of the key benefits of desktop virtualization. Operating systems, along with application installations, upgrades, patches and backups can be completed in the data center, and are then easily deployed to the end-users without visiting individual desktops. Industry standard security features enable secure user access and allow for user desktop customization.
All of this adds up to ROI and TCO benefits for businesses struggling to cut costs in today's economy. "Significant cost savings only adds to the long list of benefits for organizations who implement a desktop virtualization solution," stated Bullock. "VDI lowers the cost of hardware purchases, software licensing and on-going maintenance, and supports green computing initiatives by reducing datacenter footprints and lowering power consumption."
