TALLAHASSEE, FL – Two classrooms will be renovated at Tallahassee Community College thanks to the generosity of successful local businesses. The updated classrooms will promote active, collaborative learning through significant technology upgrades and other enhancements to create a more accessible and engaging environment.

Both Mainline Information Systems and Redwire have committed to gifts of $25,000 to support classroom renovations as part of the TCC Foundation’s ongoing First Class project. A classroom on TCC’s main campus will be named after each company. The classroom being renovated by Redwire is used by TCC’s Engineering Technology program, while the Mainline classroom is in the Computer Technology Building and houses courses in network security, microcomputers and open systems.

Tallahassee-based Mainline develops tailored information technology strategies for businesses around the United States. Heather Mitchell, executive director of the TCC Foundation, noted that Mainline has long been a partner with TCC and already sponsors an endowed scholarship at the College.

“This gift for the First Class project is yet another example of Mainline’s community engagement and the way the company and its leadership supports student success at TCC,” said Mitchell.

Mainline chair and CEO Rick Kearney presented the gift, along with Sherry Thompson, director of financial planning and analysis, and Kim Garner, executive assistant. All three serve on the board of directors of the Beatitude Foundation, the charitable arm of Mainline Information Systems.

Redwire provides electronic security systems for commercial, institutional, governmental and residential clients across Florida. The company, formerly called Sonitrol, also supports numerous charities and community partnerships.

The Redwire gift was presented by the company’s president, Ted Frazee, along with Sean Githens, vice president and chief operating officer, and Linda Barineau, vice president for human resources and compliance.

“Redwire recognizes the important role TCC plays in shaping the futures of our fellow citizens, providing them with the knowledge and skills required to make them effective members of our community,” said Frazee. “We also appreciate TCC’s commitment to engaging businesses in Tallahassee like ours, who understand the important role we too must play in helping educate future generations of workers and community leaders.”

The TCC Foundation also received approval from the TCC District Board of Trustees for 10 additional naming partnerships for businesses, organizations, families and individuals who have chosen to invest in student success at TCC by supporting a classroom renovation. There are still 20 classrooms available to be named.

“Creating a forward-thinking and innovative environment requires comfortable furnishings, a vibrant atmosphere and dynamic technology,” said TCC’s Heather Mitchell. “Students should feel as though they are stepping into the future and into a positive learning environment.”
