National Alliances Manager
Is it just me, or does this year seem to be the year of partnering? It is all about alliances, and nothing makes me happier than when two of my partners provide a world-class data center solution, just as Veeam and Cisco have done. I introduced you to Cisco Hyperflex last year in a blog, and Veeam’s newest release for Availability Suite, 9.5 version 2, has introduced integration of the two. This is the first time that Veeam has integrated with a Hyperconverged solution, ever. This continues the overall data center message for 2017, which is “delivering simplicity and enhancing efficiency in modern hybrid cloud era.” This solution, that combines software defined networking and the compute power of Cisco UCS with the Always ON Enterprise of Veeam, will enable organizations to reduce backup and recovery times, as well as improve overall operational performance.
This solution provides 5 key benefits:
Improved Recovery Point Objectives: The key feature of this solution is direct snapshot integration, enabling the user to run a backup at any time and any frequency, reducing a business’ exposure to data loss.
Minimized Impact on Production: Eliminating the need for VM snapshots dramatically reduces the performance impact on production VMs during the copy process, thus optimizing your production efficiency.
Accelerated Backups: Veeam Availability Suite provides the ability to backup data directly from the file system with asynchronous reads.
Agentless Application Aware Backup: Integration into other solutions as well, including Microsoft Active Directory, Exchange, Sharepoint, SQL Server, and Oracle.
Storage Replication: This feature allows for copying of data to other Hyperflex systems, or to any other VMware vSphere environment, including Veeam Cloud and Service Providers by using Veeam’s VM replication functionality.
This partnership has been in place since 2013, but as we know, it takes time for the solutions to bubble up the top. This solution has been built with the data center, and your business needs in mind. It is still utilizing your VMware environment, but just making it more efficient. It is providing the key reason that you upgrade your data center – efficiency. Modern data centers are utilizing on-premise and the cloud to get the most bang for their buck. The journey to the hybrid cloud may be paved with good intentions, but you must know what you are getting into and clearly define where you want to go.
We see a lot of alliances in the industry right now, and it has been my job for the past 7+ years to understand what will be best for you and your organization.
